New Caledonia – cost comparisons

I have been back looking at my receipts and bank details after my recent trip to New Caledonia, and wanted to share prices of some of the things we bought!

The currency in New Caledonia is the Pacific franc, abbreviated to either CFP or XPF. ($ prices below are AUD)

Really tasty large baguette filled with goats cheese – 800 CFP ($10.80)

Basic breakfast from hotel – 1500 CFP ($20.20)

Full hotel buffet breakfast – 3700 CFP ($49.95)

Coffee large iced – 600 CFP ($8.00)

Small hot coffee – 400 CFP ($5.40)

Glass of French wine – 1300 CFP ($17.50)

Huge and delicious cheese platter – 1950 CFP ($26.30)

Pain au choc – 400 CFP ($5.40)

Single bus ticket – 300 CFP ($4.00)

Daily bus ticket – 900 CFP ($12.00)

Cocktail – 1500 CFP ($20.20)

Beer – 800 CFP ($10.80)

Fancy cup of ice cream – 600 CFP ($8.00)

Small Orangina (in a bistro) – 550 CFP ($7.40)

Bowl of fries – 480 CFP ($6.50)

Burger King ice cream cone – 230 CFP ($3.10)

Adult ticket to aquarium (E got in for free!) – $21.93 AUD

Airport bus shuttle transfer – 3,107 CFP adult ($42.00), 1650 CFP child ($22.25)

Costs are so subjective and personal I know, because for one person spending $8 on ice cream would be completely fine and for others it would be too much!

What do you think? When I re-read this list, it actually doesn’t seem that expensive!
