Travel with your family and explore all the highlights of southern Vietnam including Hoi An, the Mekong Delta and Saigon.

This FAMILY Southern Vietnam explorer trip begins in the central city of Danang and transfer to the beautiful, historic town of Hoi An. We have time here to really explore the town by bike, foot and boat. We meet local farmers and try our hand at making noodles.

The trip continues on to the impressive and mighty Mekong Delta. We visit floating villages and markets, take boat trips through the river and island hop and try all the exotic tropical fruits! Next up and our final destination is the bustling super city of Saigon, also known as Ho Chi Minh City. Saigon is busy but has a lot to offer, not least its amazing street food and history.

Our Pip & Co Travel trips are truly family friendly. We’ve travelled with our kids A LOT, and we know what works and what doesn’t. Plus there is no pressure to be quiet (!) or interested or even to take part in all the activities. Meals are early and we always aim to have more kid friendly options, while at the same time encouraging our younger tour members to try new foods!

We’ll be travelling by car, bike, bus, boat and plane. The trip will be 9 nights – 10 days.

This small group trip will host a maximum of five families – roughly 10 adults and 10 kids. The trip requires a minimum of 3 families to go ahead. Kids of all ages are welcome, as long as each child 10 and under has one adult parent/guardian with them (a ratio of 1:1).

Day 1 - Arrive in Danang and transfer to Hoi An

Xin Chào Các Bạn! Welcome to Vietnam!

We will arrange for your airport transfer direct to our boutique hotel in beautiful, historic Hoi An.

You will have time to settle in, and explore our immediate area, before we meet for a welcome dinner.

Day 2 - Hoi An

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel then join the group for a walking tour around the old town of Hoi An. We explore the laneways, visit the market and see the famous lanterns.

Then join an indigo dyeing workshop at the private artist studio and learn the ancient technique of dye fermentation. Tie-dye your very own scarf and discover the designer in you.

After a delicious lunch, the afternoon is free for you to wander. You could visit one of the many tailors in town for some dressmaking, get a massage, explore the shops or chill out by the pool.

This evening, wander over to Hoi An’s performing arts theatre for an extravaganza of modern dance meets circus, telling the stories of Vietnam life to traditional music. It’s Cirque du Soleil in Hoi An.

Day 3 - Hoi An

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel then head out for a cycle tour* around the Hoi An countryside. Meet your guide for a bike and helmet fitting and cycle the backstreets from Hoi An to Cam Kim island. 

*for those not keen or unable to cycle there will be an option for you too.

From here, we spend a morning on bicycle to discover local farms, rivers, canals and rural villages. We will learn the secret of weaving the colourful straw sleeping mats, see how wooden boats are made, farmers and buffalos working in rice fields. Have some local tea and learn their way of life.

Afterwards, we drop in on a noodle family who supply the delicious handmade noodles for Hoi An restaurants. Get your hands busy and learn how to make Hoi An traditional noodles and Banh Dap cake. Enjoy lunch with what you have made!

After lunch, load your bike on a private boat and enjoy a boat ride back towards Hoi An. 

The rest of the day is free to explore on your own.

Day 4 - Hoi An

Enjoy breakfast, and then mid-morning, meet your guide for a quick walk around Hoi An market before heading over to take part in a cooking class with a well-known local chef who was trained in high-end western hotels. He went on to combine his deep love and knowledge of Vietnamese flavours from family recipes with his formal training to become one of the pioneers of Vietnamese fusion.

After enjoying the food you’ve cooked, you might like to head out to the beach at An Bang, or take a speedboat out to Cham Island to scuba (snorkel) the marine reserve. Or take a kayak around the waterways of Hoi An. Or just chill and enjoy the laid back atmosphere of Hoi An.

Day 5 - fly to Can Tho, Mekong Delta

After breakfast, we will head to Da Nang and catch a flight to Can Tho. Can Tho is the largest city in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam, and charms visitors with its vibrant river life, lush landscapes, and a rich cultural tapestry. Renowned for its intricate network of waterways, the city is a gateway to the Mekong Delta’s floating markets, where locals trade goods from boats laden with fresh produce. The Cần Thơ Bridge, an iconic landmark, spans the Hau River and illuminates spectacularly at night.

The city’s culinary scene is a delight for food enthusiasts, offering a diverse array of Mekong Delta specialties.

Day 6 - Mekong Delta

Enjoy an early breakfast, and then travel by road to Chau Doc, nestled along the banks of the Hau River in the Mekong Delta. On the way we stop at the Holy Lady temple.

It’s a captivating town that weaves cultural richness with natural beauty. This Vietnamese gem is renowned for its diverse ethnic communities, including Cham and Khmer people, creating a tapestry of traditions and customs. The Sam Mountain, a sacred pilgrimage site, offers panoramic views and hosts ancient pagodas and shrines.

The floating villages and fish farms on the river showcase the town’s intimate connection with the water. The vibrant Chau Doc Market entices with local flavours, while the Tra Su Forest beckons nature enthusiasts with its serene landscapes and rich biodiversity. Chau Doc invites travellers to explore its unique blend of cultural heritage, scenic wonders, and the warmth of its diverse communities.   

Mid morning we take a boat ride to the floating market, a fish farm & Cham village.

In the evening, we take a rickshaw to a local home for a home-style dinner.

Day 7 - Mekong Delta

After breakfast, we head for the Cao Dai Temple on the way to Ben Tre.
Did you know that the Mekong River was once known as “Cửu Long,” meaning Nine Dragons?
It has nine different branches, and today, you’ll have the opportunity to hop from one island to another on a small-boat tour. 

This includes a visit to an artisan workshop and a mouthwatering lunch with a friendly local farmer family.

To top it off, you’ll get to witness the beauty of the Mekong Delta at water level as you cruise through the narrow canals aboard a traditional sampan boat.

Day 8 - travel to Saigon

After a satisfying breakfast, take some time to explore the area and soak in its charm before heading to your beautiful hotel in Saigon.

Explore some of the main sights of central Saigon such as the Ben Thanh market, War Remnants Museum, Reunification Palace, Notre Dame Cathedral and historic post office.

The rest of the afternoon and evening is yours to enjoy and unwind. Saigon has plenty to offer, with hidden alleys, markets, shops, coffee houses and art galleries waiting to be discovered.

Day 9 - Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City

After breakfast at your hotel, drive out to visit to the famed Cu Chi Tunnels. The Tunnels have been a subject of historical debate, and opinions vary on the extent of reconstruction and authenticity. While the tunnels served a crucial role during the Vietnam War, it’s acknowledged that some sections have been renovated to accommodate tourists. 

Return to Saigon in the afternoon. This afternoon is free for you to explore the city.

A Vietnamese iced coffee, juice or smoothie at a pavement stall is the drink of choice to cool down in the heat! Or have some chill out time in the afternoon by the pool if you choose. 

Regroup for your farewell dinner.

No activities are planned for today.

Who comes on the trips?

Families with younger pre school and primary school aged children are interested in our family trip options. But families with children of all ages are welcome!

What are the payment terms?

To secure your place on the trip, you need to pay a deposit of $500 AUD per adult travelling on the trip. Children travelling on the trip don’t need to pay a deposit. Payment can be made by credit card or bank deposit. 

If you need to cancel the trip, your deposit is a “lifetime” deposit – which means you can use it for any of our other trips.

Full payment is required 95 days before the trip date, which is 30 September 2024.

How does the payment work for children?

This trip is AUD$2195 per adult.

Children aged 7 – 12 years are $1690

Children aged 6 and under are $1125

Children 13 years and older are charged adults price.

All pricing for children are for kids sharing a room with their parents.
